My Summer Road-trip - part 5
(it still is going to get more exciting as days go on, trust me)
note: pictures are taken with mom's phone, my little camera, and mom's camera... feel free to click on images, including maps to see them larger.
Hello Everyone...
Welcome to the next part of my road trip. We are still on the northern part of Vancouver Island staying in Port McNeil, B.C.
Decisions.. Decisions.. Decisions..
Tomorrow we are suppose to drive down to Sidney, B.C. and go over to San Juan Island, Washington for a few days, but they have just not been seeing the Southern Resident Orcas or Transients for that matter.
Looking at the weather report, and the fact that mom and I are tired (really, not me) and would like to just stay put, mom decided (me too) that we could go back down to Campbell River for the next 4 days where it is warmer than here in Port McNeil.
So, we packed the car up, checked out, and headed back to the Mackay's to do one last whale watch trip with them on this foggy, chilly morning before we headed down to Campbell River. Yay!
Oh, I have my ear phones in as I am listening and watching my programs on my iPad. :) You can barely see it in the photo there on the left. It's pink too.
It was such a foggy morning making it more difficult to find wildlife. There were times you couldn't even see 20 feet from the boat.
We headed south in Johnstone Strait and came upon the Northern Residents; A23's at Blinkham heading east with A25's and A'8s eventually joining up with them.
You can barely see the Orca where the black heart shape is.
Such a great encounter as we followed them down (east) the strait as they were heading to Robson Bight.
As we were following them, we came upon a group of Transients (T018, T019, T019b, T019c, T002c, T002c1, T002c2, T002c3). Wow, they were in the midst of the Northern Residents. It was difficult to watch them as they were taking really long dives, but they eventually went into the bight with the Northern Residents.
Then we came upon the brothers; A36's heading west. Mom didn't get any photos of them that were worth keeping.
We got back to the dock, said our good-byes and then headed south to Campbell River.. :)
It was a gorgeous drive down, and we were tired when we got to the hotel, the same hotel we stayed in before.
I will be back with the next part very soon.. :)
Until then...
Love,
Kayla
