My Summer Road-trip - part 3
(it still is going to get more exciting as days go on, trust me)
note: pictures are taken with mom's phone, my little camera, and mom's camera... feel free to click on images, including maps to see them larger.

Hello Everyone...

Welcome to the next part of my road trip. Previous post ended with driving from Campbell River to Port McNeil, B.C.

Today was our scheduled day off to sleep in, relax, and just chill out.. Yea right, mom! I was not going for that. I got mom up and out the door to go sight seeing, see-what-we-see.. So off we went.

We went down to the waterfront in Port McNeil, but it was still in the low 50's, but sunny, so we made two quick stops before heading north to Port Hardy.

We stopped at a pull out along our way to Port Hardy. This is what we saw:

Then we went to Port Hardy, which is further north from Port McNeil and pretty much where the road ends on that side of the island. Port Hardy is a little bigger than Port McNeil, has more stores, but still not much. We went to the water front area to walk down the walkway to the little harbor in town and back. The sun was out, but the breeze was chilly. Still only in the 50's.

As we were driving around town, we came upon this view from just above the waterfront. Such a gorgeous area.

On our way out of Port Hardy, we found this trail that we wanted to do, so we only did part of it due to all the bugs. Mom didn't have bug repellent for me, so we did just part of the trail.

Mom wanted to go over to the coast "B" (Cape Scott) and hike out to the beach.

There is a hiking trail that sounded like I could do with my hiking stroller. Since I was still in a good mood and definitely not ready to head back to the hotel, we decided to take the drive. It was like 40 km, so mom figured, no problem, we have time. Little did she know that 40 km was on a dirt road 90% of the way, and so it sure took longer than expected.

We finally arrived with a brown car instead of a white car. Mom took out my stroller only to find out that the one cap that holds one of the tires on was missing. Darn. That was not good. So, mom ended up leaving me in my wheelchair and we walked as far as we could to the first steep hill, then turned around and went back to the car. Mom was bummed, me too, but at least we got to see a little bit of the trail. I had fun!

So it's probably through forest like trees as you see in the pictures out to the beach.. I can't wait to go back and do this in my stroller. I just need a powered wheelchair to get up the steep hills. My chair, I, my tray, Cubby and Mickey are all about 200 lbs. My stroller weighs so much less, but I am not a fan of it..

So we got back on the road, stopping a few times to take photos.

We stopped at the top of a hill, looked back and this was the view... I believe the coast is on the other side of the hills in the distance.

They do a lot of logging on the island.

When we had about 3 km left before we hit pavement when we saw some bears; a mom and her two cubs on the side of the road walking down to the next set of berries. :) So cute. The area they were in, the lighting was very low, so mom did her best to capture a few shots.

Back on pavement heading down highway to Port McNeil..

We finally got back to the hotel just after dark. I was still in a good mood, having a grand ole time. I-pad time back at the hotel to watch some of my favorite cartoons/programs.  :)

Can't wait to get to the next couple of days, but for now, I will end this post here..

Love,
Kayla
